The Story Of The Face in British GQ

Out today, the November 2017 issue of British GQ includes a 10-page feature on my forthcoming book The Story Of The Face: The Magazine That Changed Culture.

My article turns on editor/publisher Nick Logan’s contemplation of closing the style bible on the publication of the 100th edition in 1988, and shows that his decision against that move opened the doors for a golden age in journalism as The Face reported from the frontline of youth culture through rave, grunge, dirty realism, hyperreal design, radical fashion photography, BritArt, Britpop and all that ensued.

The Story Of The Face: The Magazine That Changed Culture is published by Thames & Hudson in November. Order your copy here.

My art director and I were so excited to find a pile of Face mags at a production company we were working with. The young director and producer of the tv spot we were making had no idea what The Face was. Seriously!
