Photographer Ivan Jones dropped by this week to take my portrait for a forthcoming book about the design business Burro. Contributors have been asked to wear garments they bought from the company for Ivan’s portraits.

I was a regular customer of the Burro outlet in Covent Garden’s Floral Street (and wrote about the label here).

That’s where I bought the shirt in Ivan’s pictures; must have been 1994. It has stood me in good stead. I like everything about it: the cotton now soft with age, the colour tone, the cuffs, the collar, the fit.

Now it is faded around the neck and cuffs, it’s really coming into its own. The shirt is a testament to solid design values and thoughtful manufacture. I shall continue to wear it until it or I drop.
